First I would like to wish all my moms a happy Mother's day.
I would also like to thank all of my parents for the great teacher's appreciation week. I enjoyed all my specials treats. I especially enjoyed the cards that I received this week. Thank you so much for the privilege of teaching your child.
Honor's day is Thursday, May 14. It will begin at 12:15 in the gym. There are other groups before us, so please do not go into the gym if there is another group still in there. Parking is limited so you might need to park in the field behind the school. Do not park in the car rider line or by the side walk by the buses. Please send in the $3.00 it is due Monday.
The last day of school is Thursday, May 21. car riders will dismiss at 12:25 and bus riders will dismiss at 12:30. Please let me know if your child will not be at school on May 21.

April Update
Hello Parents,
I hope everyone had a great and restful spring break. It is the final push to the end of the year. I know your child is experiencing spring fever. Please make sure your child is reading daily at home. It is important that we continue the hard work that we have been doing all year. Try reading in different places, like outside. After they play for a little bit have them read their library book to you. Have them read the street signs to you as you drive around town. Have your child read the menu at the restaurant the next time you go out to eat.
One thing that I have noticed is a problem is our writing. As a class, the writing does not have enough detail. I am trying to get the kids to use more adjectives when they write.
Progress reports will be going home soon. Please remember that your child must have a 70% cumulative average in reading and math to be promoted to second grade. If your child does not meet this criteria they will be brought up to the committee that will decided if your child is promoted to second grade or retained in first.

No more money will be taken for the photo booth. If you sent in money already your child's picture will be taken on the make up day. Thanks for all who have helped with this fundraiser for the Student Council.
I also need donations for our class treasure chest: Please send in small toys and or candy. The kids really look forward to treasure chest on Fridays.
In our class we are working on reading comprehension. We have been reading more non- fiction or informational stories in class. I am having the students underline in the sentence in the story that answers the questions. You should see where they have underlined the story on the reading test. Your child should also write the number to the question by the sentence that was underlined.
Please look at the reading test to see if your child underlined correctly.
There is a parent survey that we are asking you to complete:
Parent Survey: notes were sent home about a parent online survey- Please complete this survey. This will help make CES a better school. Please sent me a note when you have completed the survey- your child will earn a gotcha- The class with the most parent participation will earn a movie party!
PTO is having a coke fundraiser. Even if you decide not to sell the drinks, please think about buying a case or 2 of any of the drinks your family likes. You will need to come to the school to pick them up. All proceeds go to a great cause- YOUR CHILD !!! This fundraiser ends Feb. 13.
Valentine's day is rapidly approaching. Our party will be Friday, February 13. All children need to have addressed cards for all students. I have sent home a list of students. Also, have your child decorate a tissue box (or small box or bag) to collect their cards.
Please send in the $2.00 for the party. I need to buy the supplies for the party.
Progress reports will go home Feb. 12- please sign and return.
Feb. 10 begins Prime Time Reading- this program will be every Tuesday until March 17. Please return your reservation form. It will be from 5:30-7:00
Field trip to Let's Pretend Hospital will be Feb. 27- Permission slips were sent home on Friday. Please pay for this field trip as soon as possible. If you plan to chaperone you must have a completed and returned background check. It takes a few weeks for those to return.
Feb. Gotcha Party will be Feb. 27. It will be a minute to win it party. These are a lot of fun. Please check your child's behavior log daily to ensure they are exhibiting the correct behavior to attend this party. Your child needs 5 gotchas to attend the party. They will need 10 gotchas to get a prize from the gotcha cart.

January Update
Hello Parents,
Our class is selling CES t-shirts. I sent home order forms this week. You can pick the color that you want: red, black, or gray. The cost is $13. Forms and money are due Jan. 30. Please note that you can't combine this money with any other money. Thanks
We have been back at school for a few weeks and there are a few things that I have noticed. Some of the kids are having trouble reading fluently. Please make sure your child is reading every night. Also, encourage your child to take A.R. tests on their library books. I have some kids that have only taken 1 since we have come back. They should be taking 2 tests a week. It is also important that your child practice the high frequency words. These words are used a lot in the stories that your child reads. They should not have to sound them out. They should be able to read them.
I am going to be sending home extra work with some work for your child. This work will review skills that we have already learned. This work will be optional, but I feel that it would be beneficial to review these skills.
